Click to play videoNew Delhi: In what many are terming to be the double standards of the Kannada Film Producers' Association, the industry has decided to impose a 3-year ban on actress Nikita Thukral for her alleged role in creating rifts between Kannada superstar Darshan and his wife Vijayalakshmi. But surprisingly no action has been taken against Darshan for allegedly beating up his wife.
Speaking to reporters, Soorappa Babu, secretary of the Association, said that the decision was taken in the interest of Kannada film industry and Vijayalakshmi on humanitarian grounds.
"Everyone is aware of her alleged role in creating problems for Vijayalakshmi. We do not want heroines who create problems between heroes and their wives," said Soorappa Babu. It was said that Nikita would not be allowed to act in any Kannada film for three years.
Currently Nikita is the heroine for Darshan starrer 'Sangolli Rayanna'. It is directed by Naganna. "We have no problems if she wants to complete the shooting for 'Sangolli Rayanna' but she cannot sign new films. We have already informed our members not to engage her as heroine in their films,” said Babu.
Meanwhile, Nikita said that she was not aware of the three-year ban on her by the Association. "I will give my reply when I receive the letter from the Association. I am planning to visit Bangalore shortly. I will, if need arises, visit the Association office to answer their queries," said Nikita.
The actress said that there was no need for a three-year ban on her since she has nothing to do with the actor’s personal life. "A few people have claimed that I am very close to Darshan. I am not a close friend of any one in Kannada film industry."
This came just days after several actors and producers met Vijaylakshmi in hospital and asked her to forgive Darshan, which she eventually did.
Vijayalakshmi, who had in her complaint accused her husband of assaulting her and threatening her with a revolver, appeared before the court of First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Venkatesh Hulagi and retracted her statement, saying she sustained injuries due to a fall in the bathroom.
Darshan was arrested on on charges of domestic violence on September 9 and has been in judicial custody since then. His bail plea will come up for hearing on Tuesday.
