Daughter stroke in son-struck DMK

New Delhi: There has been widespread speculation on whether Tamil Nadu Chief Minster M Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi would take the political plunge.

In an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN's Veeraraghav, Kanimozhi indicated that she is not entirely averse to the idea of entering politics. "I am not against politics as I was born into it," she said.

The decision comes as a surprise considering the fact that the Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) has for long been opposed to dynasty politics.

But then, will the daughter stroke in the son-struck DMK change the political equation? The answer is perhaps a 'no', as Karunanidhi's son from Dayalu Ammal and a minister for local administration, MK Stalin, is the speculated as being the undisputed heir apparent.

Stalin is the other prominent member of the chief minister's immediate family besides central Communications Minister Dayanidhi Maran.

Kanimozhi, on her part, is holding her cards close: "To be honest, I have not made up my mind. If the party needs me, I'll be there for it in every possible way, but I don't think politics is the only way. I haven't thought about it so seriously."

Many in Tamil Nadu's political circles liken 39-year-old Kanimozhi's career to Jayalalithaa's as both of them have seen a transformation-from an advocate for Tamil culture to a political figure.
