Wright smashed a whirlwind 34 off just 10 balls to take Pune to 185 but still his side lost to Punjab in a thrilling last-over finish.
Mohali: Despite posting a challenging total of 185 runs at Mohali, riding on a blistering knock by Luke Wright, Pune Warriors India got another thrashing at the hands of Kings XI Punjab on Sunday.
Wright, who smashed a whirlwind 34 off just 10 deliveries, expressed his disappointment in an interview to the IPL website, "Obviously we are disappointed, but yes, we managed to get ourselves to a good score on a very good wicket, but sometimes you have to say, hats off to Mandeep Singh and obviously Miller who played brilliantly".
Luke Wright, who had finally got a chance to feature in the Pune's playing XI, was sitting in the dugout, waiting for his chance to go and get a hit in the middle. His chance came in the 18th over after Yuvraj walked back to the pavilion for 34 off 24 balls.
"It was a delight to bat out there and it was great to get some quick runs on the board. But obviously the loss has taken the shine off the knock and by me giving away the runs in the last over. But in terms of batting, that has been my main strength and I am very pleased with it", Wright said.
On being asked about the experience of bowling the last over, Wright replied, "Of course, there was a lot of pressure when I had to bowl the last over. I am not an out-and-out bowler, I just bowl a bit sometimes, so obviously there was pressure there. It was a situation I am not used to being in so often, but it was a shame I couldn't defend the total off the last over. And again, credit to Miller, who played well."
