New Delhi: Day One at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion week saw designers stick to their signature styles and it was all about reinterpreting the old.
The fashion fraternity put up a unified show at the extravaganza. Two Mumbai-based designers, Wendell Rodericks and Narendra Kumar opened the show in the Capital on Saturday.
Wendell played up his quintessential, flowing silhouettes in pristine white linens and floor-sweeping gowns with a dash of color inspired by the squares of the cubism movement. Narendra Kumar's collection titled Introspection had Japanese Zen aesthetic running seamlessly through it.
It was both, a dash of Bollywood and politics, when actress-turned politician Jaya Prada walked the ramp for designers Ashima and Leena in a green ensemble.
“I feel that Ashima and Leena have given us this wonderful design and we are all looking so beautiful in these designs,” Jaya Prada said.
Cricketer Kapil Dev and the Chess player Tanya Sachdev too strutted their stuff for the designer duo.
Next in line was Tarun Tahiliani offering a floral spectacle with his collection of anarkalis, chikan karis, printed denims and most importantly, his signature draping.
But the ultimate showstopper was the waistcoat-clad and dapper looking Abhay Deol flashing his dimples for the flashbulbs; presenting designs by Ritu Beri.
“In fact today I wore something that i have worn before because Ritu said dress as you would by yourself,” said Abhay Deol.
