Day 4: Fresh fire breaks out in Kolkata

CNN-IBN

Kolkata: A fresh incident of fire is being reported from Burrabazar in Kolkata, which has been ablaze for almost three days now.

Just as the blaze at Nandaram market was being doused, another fire broke out.

On Sunday the generator room of the fire-ravaged Nandram market exploded, spreading the blaze all over the 13 storey building that is Nandram market. This has raised fears of the building collapsing completely.

All residents of nearby buildings have also been evacuated, amid fears that building may collapse and crash into others nearby.

Both the Army and the firefighters are struggling to bring the flames under control. It's now the fourth day after the fire started.

The fire that broke out in Kolkata's Burrabazar, one of the biggest and busiest commercial hubs in eastern India, on Friday, is still raging on.

Over 2,500 shops and dwellings were engulfed in the fire, the most devastating in living memory, destroying property worth over Rs 200 crore.

West Bengal Fire Services Minister has blamed the traders for illegally hoarding flammable material that led to the massive fire.
