Poonch: The fierce gunbattle between Pakistani terrorists and the Indian Army entered its eighth day on Wednesday.
A team of Army Para Commandos conducted aerial surveys over the Bhatidhar forest where around 10 terrorists are still believed to be holed up.
The terrorists are using the natural caves in the dense forests as hideouts and have stocked supplies to last a few weeks.
Security forces say that Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists have been operating in the region and working in close coordination with each other for several years now.
Since the encounter began on December 31, three security personnel including a JCO, and at least four terrorists have been killed.
Early on Wednesday morning, security forces fired illuminator to light up the are and to find out the hiding places of the terrorists.
Additional forces have been deployed to the encounter site. Since the area is sparsely populated, security forces have decided that they will proceed slowly and say their priority is that there are no more casualties on their side.
Another factor that is hampering the operation is that the area is just three to four kms away from the Line of Control (LoC).
However, security forces admit that that terrorists could consolidate so near to the LoC is a cause of concern.
Senior officers are confident that none of the terrorists could have escaped as they have thrown a three-tier security cordon in the area.
