New Delhi: The Election Commission on Monday said that its decision to cover the elephant symbols and Mayawati statues across Uttar Pradesh was not politically motivated.
In an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN, election commissioners H S Brahma and Sampath Kumar termed it unfortunate that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati had called the decision of the Election Commission anti-Dalit.
They further said that the Election Commission would issue a formal denial on Mayawati charges, adding that there was no question of the election body working in pro-Dalit or anti-Dalit manner.
The Election Commissioners further sounded a warning that narcotics and money power might play a major role in Punjab polls.
According to Brahma and Kumar, most of the narcotics are coming from across the border.
