New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Sunday detained a man in connection with the murder of business tycoon and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Deepak Bhardwaj. The police suspect him to be the driver of the Skoda car which the killers used to escape. The Skoda owner has been taken into police custody and the car has been impounded.
Bhardwaj, a real estate tycoon and Delhi's richest Lok Sabha candidate in 2009, was shot dead by two men at his South Delhi farmhouse on Tuesday. Police said that the suspect's exact role is currently being verified.
The police had earlier detained three men in Jind in Haryana who were questioned in Delhi. They were later let off.
Delhi Police on Friday had said that they have identified the two men involved in the murder. Bhardwaj's wife was also questioned because police wanted to know if she had a grudge against her husband since she was living separately in Dwarka with younger son Nitish for several months, a police officer close to the probe told reporters. The officer did not want to be named.
