Dehradun: Dehradun SSP Amit Sinha was among eight police officials who were suspended on Sunday night following the controversy over the killing of an MBA graduate, Ranbir Singh, in an alleged fake encounter on July 3.
Sinha, who had been strongly defending the encounter, was attached to the Police Headquarters, Uttarakhand Chief Minister R P Nishank told reporters.
Apart from Sinha seven other officials including Sub-Inspector G D Bhatt were also removed and sent to police lines, he said.
Bhatt had alleged that the encounter took place after Ranbir Singh snatched his revolver and beat him up in the posh Dalanwala area.
