Ahmedabad: A high-level delegation from Latin American and Caribbean countries on Thursday met Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and expressed interest in response to his proposal for setting up a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for wood-timber and marble artisans in the state.
Modi put the proposal for SEZ before the delegation comprising envoys from Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Costa Rica, Al Salvador, Dominic Republic and Chile at a meeting in Ahmedabad, an official statement said.
"They have evinced keen interest in suggestion to set up a SEZ for wood, timber and marble artisans along the seacoast of Gujarat, besides other industrial and manufacturing projects," the statement said.
The delegation invited the Chief Minister to explore trade possibilities in Latin America. Modi told the delegation that they could jointly set up a 'Trade Centre' in Gujarat.
He also invited them to participate in the forthcoming biennial Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit, to be held in January, 2013.
