New Delhi: In a grave reminder of December 16, 2012 Delhi gangrape, a five-year-old was abducted and brutally raped in the capital and the police have detained one person in connection with the case. The detained man is reported to be the father of the main accused.
The police have registered a case of kidnapping, rape and unnatural sex under Section 377 of the IPC. The police also denied that it was lax and late in taking action. East Delhi DCP Prabhakar rubbished the runours of police inaction and said that the mother of the child along with a relative came to the police station and a case of kidnapping was registered immediately. "When the child was found on the ground floor, we immediately took the child to the hospital. The police is camping at the known hideouts of the accused to arrest him," said Prabhakar.
The toddler is currently battling for her life at a hospital in East Delhi and the doctors have confirmed that she was subjected to horrific injuries to her private parts, saying that they were mutilated and this has resulted in serious infection. Swami Dayanand Hospital Physician DR RK Bansal said that the toddler's condition is critical and she is in ICU. "The child's condition is very critical. She is in ICU right now. She will be under observation for the next 24-48 hours. There were foreign objects found inside her and this has resulted in infection," said Dr Bansal.
The girl was kidnapped from her home in Gandhi Nagar in East Delhi four days ago. The rape survivor's family alleged that the police acted too late in finding her and were reluctant in filing an FIR. Not just that, when confronted about the probe in the case, the police officials allegedly told the parents to just be grateful that she was found alive.
No one has been arrested yet but the main suspect is a neighbour who is absconding. The five-year-old's mother while demanded justice said, "She went out to play two days back when she was kidnapped. The man then locked her up in his room and raped her. I want justice from the government."
"When I went to lodge the FIR, the police refused to register it initially. If they had made a better attempt at locating her, then this situation would not have arrived. The police asked us to be content with the fact that we atleast found her alive," said the father. Meanwhile, the father of the rape survivor said that the doctors have refused to give any information beyond the fact that his daughter is critical.
NCPCR Member Vinod Kumar Tikoo said that he was shocked to hear the facts and demanded swift action against culprit.
Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members are staging protest outside the hospital to show solidarity for the rape survivor's family and are demanding action.
