New Delhi: Thirty-six-year old Tarveen Suri is battling for her life in Capital’s Safdarjung Hospital. The Delhi-based small-time fashion designer was attacked in her Greater Kailash home by two unidentified men on Sunday.
The men threw acid at her, poured kerosene over her and attempted to immolate her.
Now, it appears the attack was a crime of passion carried out on the instructions of Rachna, a colleague of Tarveen’s husband Navin. Rachna and Navin were rumoured to be having an affair.
The Delhi Police have filed an FIR against Rachna on charges of attempt to murder. Rachna, who works with Navin in a travel agency in Gurgaon, is currently not in Delhi and has been asked by police to join the investigation.
Sources tell CNN-IBN that Tarveen came to know of the affair and confronted her husband. Tarveen is understood to have alleged that Rachna wanted to marry Navin and threatened her to leave her husband.
Under pressure, Navin and Rachna broke up. For Rachna, the last straw was when Tarveen complained to Rachna's father about the affair.
“My brother-in-law told the police he had an affair with Rachna. He ended it some days ago. She did not like it,” says Tarveen’s brother Taranjit Bawa.
Not only are the call records of Rachna and Naveen being investigated, also under the scanner is the timing of their simultaneous business trips.
The police are also trying to put together a sketch of the second biker who attacked Tarveen. She had also claimed there was an attempt on her life last week when someone tried to run a car over her, the sources said.
But the Suri family is not too convinced by the efforts.
This just shows how women in the city are feeling unsafe,” says Tarveen’s sister-in-law, Sarika.
Meanwhile, police have released a sketch of one of the suspects in the sensational case.
