New Delhi: The Delhi and Ambala police on Thursday averted a major terror plot after finding a car full of explosives at the Ambala cantonment.
Investigations show that the plot could have been a possible tie up between the Lashkar-e-Taiba and the Babbar Khalsa International to strike in Delhi.
It is a nexus between two of the most potent terror organisations India has been a victim of.
In an Indica car parked at the Ambala Cantonment Railway station were explosives, enough to shake any foundation, and a terror plot certain to send shivers down the spine of India's security set-up.
"There were five kg of RDX and five detonators. Two timers were hidden in the cavity of the power window buttons," said Arun Kampani, DCP, Special Cell, Delhi Police.
Ironically, the same car was given an all clear by the Haryana police when they checked it first. It is only when other specialised teams reached the spot that they found the explosives.
According to sources, they picked up intercepts between Nepal, Jammu and Srinagar before the operation. After preliminary investigations, the police revealed the final twist.
What alarmed investigative agencies the most was a possible tie-up between the Lashkar-e-Taiba and the Babbar Khalsa International, a deadly cocktail which could prove lethal for India's security setup. The entire consignment of explosives was meant to carry out a major terror strike in the capital.
The police are now trying to ascertain the extent of links between the two terror organisations and the exact plot that was to be carried out. While a major tragedy might have been averted, the possible union of these two outfits is going to keep the intelligence agencies on their toes.
