The blast left him blind, deaf in one ear and maimed. Two years on, Singh is still reeling under its impact. He now wants to return the bravery medal conferred on him by the government.
"They said they would reimburse the expenses for my treatment. I provided them with all the necessary documents but nothing has come of it so far,” he says.
It's not just the money that's missing. Kuldeep says he has knocked on all doors and the people who lauded him for his bravery two years ago, turn him away today with false assurances or even insults.
"I am proud of myself for saving so many lives but I regret that I haven't regained my vision yet,” he says.
Today Kuldeep has a government flat and a job that just about pays for his monthly expenses. But what he needs is money for treatment that will make him financially independent again. Is it too heavy a price for his act of bravery?
