New Delhi: Days after the Delhi Police began the process of collecting critical evidence after the arrests of three accused in the Delhi blasts on September 13, sources claimed they have managed to get their hands on a crucial video clip which was saved on slain terrorist Atif's mobile phone.
The video shows one of the bombs being planted at India Gate. Sources claimed this will serve as crucial evidence during the trial.
Sources also said that another terror suspect, Sadiq - who was arrested in Mumbai on Wednesday - was also wanted by the special cell and that Atif and Sadiq were part of a three-member think tank that reported to an underworld don by the name of Riaz Bhatkal.
Sources claimed this was just the first link of the chain that has now been traced all the way to the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).
Here's how this trinity functioned:
- Atif, Sadiq and another unidentified person constituted the think tank
- They reported to underworld don Riaz Bhatkal who is wanted in many cases. He is believed to be the coordinator between the SIMI and the Indian Mujahideen
- Riaz in turn reported to Amir Raza Khan, an accused in the attack on the American Consulate in Kolkata in 2002 and currently believed to be somewhere in Pakistan
- Khan was reporting to the man sitting at the top of the chain, Abu Alqama, the LeT chief responsible of operations in India
Soon after the arrest of the terror suspects last week, the Delhi Police had claimed the terror network had the solid backing of the LeT. Officers said more recoveries were likely to be effected during the remand period of the three accused.
