New Delhi: The government is under pressure to perform. But on Saturday night after the blasts, some ordinary Delhiites performed some incredible roles.
On September 13, when bombs ticked and went off in the national capital, some men and women showed exemplary ability to act quickly in a crisis.
They risked their own lives and became saviours that evening.
An 11-year-old balloon seller who you would probably ignore at the traffic signals, is now helping Delhi Police identify the suspects behind the blasts.
"I saw two men dressed in black place a packet in the dustbin," the young hero has told the police and media.
Then there were two faceless rag pickers whose watchfulness helped saved several lives.
These boys from the lowest rung of the economic ladder tipped off the police about two live bombs. Between them, they pointed out one bomb in Central Park and the other one outside Regal Cinema.
The gatekeeper at Regal Cinema, Dinesh Bhatnagar lauded the boys' efforts.
"This kid is godsend. Without his aid, we could have seen more tragedy," Bhatnagar said.
Another good Samaritan who jumped into fray to help, unaware that tragedy was nearer home than he could imagine is Pappu Pawar.
A common citizen, he instinctively rushed to help the injured at Gaffar Market. Little did he know that eight of his family were lying dead or injured nearby.
"It was too much for me to watch the dead bodies strewn around. So I started gathering the bits," said Pawar.
And finally there were the four Delhi police beat constables who saved the day for many.
PN Subash,Suresh Kumar,Joginder Singh and Ashok Kumar took danger into their bare hands, defusing bombs at India Gate and at Regal Cinema just in the nick of time.
"We had no time as one movie show had just got over and the next was to start," said Subhash.
They know why time was crucial and quick action was demanded.
"Had we waited, it would have resulted in a bigger tragedy," said Joginder Singh.
If adversity is the measure of a man, then these men stood very tall.
