New Delhi: A 17-year-old boy was arrested in Delhi on Tuesday and charged with 200 robberies. According to the police he entered into the crime world at the age of seven years.
There was a case of fire in Delhi's Sarojini Nagar on December 11 and according to police it was no accident.
The fire was deliberately sparked by a gang of robbers who had made it their trademark and the brain behind it was 20-year-old Sanju, who now behind bars.
His gang has robbed six houses in the past two months and all of them were set on fire.
The gang of robbers considered starting afire to be a good omen and the best way to destroy evidence. All the gang members were slightly on a high while committing the crime.
"All of them in the gang were addicted to whitener, which they would inhale during the crime and use the same inflammable liquid to set the house ablaze," said South District DCP HGS Dhaliwal.
While Sanju was the gang leader his accomplice also included a juvenile who is only 17-year-old. The boy reportedly took to crime at the tender age of seven.
Pilanji Village of Delhi, just behind the Sarojini Nagar Market, was where the 17-year old's life of crime began.
Residents of the area though have distanced themselves from him saying, he was an outsider and no one from their area could be involved in the kind of activities he was involved in
But sources say the boy had nearly 200 cases of robbery against him. He was even put in a juvenile home, but managed to break out earlier this year.
The police are now trying to trace others in the gang which they fear could have many more minors.
