New Delhi: The Delhi police now want cycle rickshaw pullers to help them control the crime rate in the city. And to extend a hand of friendship, they organised a race for the pullers.
If you didn't see too many rickshaws on the streets of Delhi on Thursday morning, well because they were getting set for the competition. Over a hundred of them participated in a race organised by the Delhi police. Donning sporty attire for a special occasion, the rickshaw pullers were ready to get set and go.
If you risk taking the rickshaw ride you will probably get home much faster and if the Delhi police plan works out you will also probably get there much safer.
Delhi police flagged off the event so that they get along better with the rickshaw pullers.
DCP Ajay Chaudhuri said, “We organise the event to increase sharing of interaction between police and rickshaw pullers. So they can help control crime.”
But the rickshaw pullers are in it for other reasons.
Vijay Kumar, a rickshaw puller says, “People won good prizes in the previous race. That's why I came to participate.”
And the prizes are worth it - 3 kilograms of ghee, 5 kilograms of flour and even bottles of cooking oil. With hoots, cheers and slaps on the back, the winner does take it all.
