New Delhi: Delhi Police Personnel are all set to turn into life savers and that too quite literally.

The Delhi police in collaboration with an NGO has started a training programme in life saving techniques for its 2000 personnel.

The programme will be conducted over a period of two months by professors from the All India Institute of medical sciences (AIIMS).

Head AIIMS trauma centre MC Mishra said, “Our aim is to make sure that after an accident a patient doesn’t die because the police couldn’t cater to his needs immediately. We want to minimise that possibility.

More than 2000 people died in road accidents last year and now the aim of the Delhi police is to teach its personnel some basic techniques which could help save many lives.

DCP PCR PS Bhushan said, “They (police personnel) are being taught how to stop bleeding and also how to revive someone whos dying.”

Delhites obviously welcome the move but are only apprehensive of how efficient this service would be.

The Delhi police wishes to make this a process of continuous learning for its PCR staff. They hope that the staff currently undergoing training would be able to train the new recruits the same way.
