Corporates encouraging Delhi voters to vote

New Delhi: It's not just the government and the Election Commission that is urging people to vote. Now corporates and entrepreneurs are also trying to persuade people to come out and vote during the elections.

Delhi-based designer and politician Jagdish Tytler's son Siddarth Tytler is all set to get politics back in vogue with a 10 per cent discount on showing the blue ink mark that is applied on the voters' fingers. The offer is valid for two weeks after voting date.

"we decided lets give the youth an incentive to go out and vote," says Siddarth Tytler.

The election fever is hard to miss at Spykar showrooms also with a board put up to write on the thoughts on voting, tent cards with polling messages, and gifts for voters.

"They will come with a mark on their finger and will give them surprise gifts," says Spykar President Rajesh Sharma.

Owner of the boutique White, Shaan Thadani, also has colourful plans to get the fashion-conscious Delhiite to vote.

"They have to vote and if they show the finger, they get a discount of 10 per cent from the May 8 to May 11. It's not usually the time we offer discounts," says Thandani.

Those who vote can even get a makeover done at half the prices Vibes will be slashing upto 50 per cent off the bills, from May 7 to May 15.

The Delhi Election commission is only too happy with the move

"Beauty chains are offering hefty discounts to people who vote. It is valid till four days after polling and it shows a lot of social consciousness," says Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Satbir Silas Bedi.

With a modest 47 per cent voter turnout in the last General Elections, the capital's retail chains are hoping these poll tricks will get many a Delhiite to the voting booth this time.
