Rights group seeks probe in Delhi encounter

New Delhi: A rights organisation on Monday moved a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking a judicial inquiry into the shootout in Jamia Nagar here in which two suspected terrorists were killed.

NGO Act Now for Harmony and Democracy (ANHAD), in its petition, has raised doubts about the authenticity of the police version of the September 19 shootout in which one of its top officers, Inspector MC Sharma, was also killed.

A bench headed by Justice Mukul Mudgal posted it for hearing November 7.

ANHAD said that there were many discrepancies in the police version of the shootout that needed to be clarified and an independent judicial inquiry was the need of the hour.

The petitioner also demanded separate guidelines for the police and media on not divulging and publishing details about such sensitive issues.
