Delhi gangrape-murder: SC dismisses plea seeking transfer of case out of Delhi

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has dismissed a transfer petition filed by advocate ML Sharma seeking to transfer the Delhi gangrape-murder case trial out of Delhi. ML Sharma had filed the petition on behalf of one of the accused in the case, Mukesh.

However, on Monday, another advocate, VK Anand claimed that he was the real counsel of Mukesh and had not filed any petition to transfer the case. Following this, the court ordered a probe to find out who Mukesh's real counsel was.

During the inquiry, it was found that VK Anand is Mukesh's real counsel, following which the apex court dismissed advocate ML Sharma's petition to transfer the case out of Delhi. Advocate VK Anand in fact said that the accused, Mukesh, did not want the case to be transferred out of Delhi.

The plea was dismissed after the court found that advocate ML Sharma, who filed the petition, did not technically represent the accused.

The petition filed by ML Sharma had said that "due to media reports and agitations and due to political statements and personal interest shown by the chief minister as well as various cabinet ministers, judiciary is under pressure to work against the petitioner".
