New Delhi: A 15-year-old girl, who slipped into a coma on January 7 after she was allegedly beaten up by her teacher, died at Maharaja Agrasen Hospital in the Capital on Thursday morning.
Rinky Kaushik's father, Naresh Kaushik claimed that the teacher had beaten up his daughter with a stick because she had refused to attend his private tuition classes.
According to her father, the Class 10 student of the privately run Dinkar National Model School in east Delhi went into coma because her teacher, Dhirendra Kumar Dinkar, assaulted her with a stick on November 10, 2007.
Rinky was admitted to the intensive care unit of the hospital for blood clotting in the brain. The clots were later removed but her condition remained critical.
Her father claims the beating proved to be fatal as it aggravated Rinky's nerve disorder — a disorder from a motorcycle accident seven years ago.
Rinky's body has been sent to a government hospital for post-mortem. However, doctors at Maharaja Agrasen Hospital say that the girl died due to a respiratory disorder.
Earlier, Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely had visited the girl at the hospital and moved against the school administration for resorting to corporal punishment.
The Delhi government has promised to take action against both the school authorities and the teacher and has announced Rs 1 lakh compensation to the girl's family.
The education department then de-recognised the school on March 5 this year.
An FIR has been lodged against the teacher and the principal but no arrest has been made as of yet.
Earlier, Naresh Kaushik claimed he had been receiving threats to withdraw the FIR lodged against them. The FIR was registered on February 12 under Indian Penal Code sections 325 (voluntarily causing hurt), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
"The police doesn't help the middleclass. I have requested them several times but they still haven't arrested the man. He is roaming free on the streets. The police say he has seen several cases like these before," he said.
"We want justice for our daughter. The accused should be arrested immediately for murder."
