Delhi is unsafe, no courage to face the gangrape victim, I am ashamed: Sheila

New Delhi: As the whole country remains shocked and angry after the brutal gangrape of a 23-year-old girl in a moving bus in the heart of national capital, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has said that the incident has shaken all of us and expressed hope that lessons are being learnt from the shocking incident.

Speaking to CNN-IBN, the Delhi Chief Minister assured that she was doing whatever was there within her ambit, adding that she was facing the flak for the fault of others. She pointed that the Delhi Police reported to the Union Home Ministry, and that law and order was not under the Delhi government.

The Delhi Chief Minister also criticised Union Home Secretary saying, "I am disappointed with the Home Secretary's statement that Delhi Police need not be defensive."

Dikshit even said that "if the Centre wants, it can keep VIP security, but give law and order to the Delhi government. She, however, added, "I would focus on safety rather than indulge in blame game."

Shockingly, the Chief Minister herself conceded that Delhi was "certainly unsafe" and that she was even ashamed to face the victim of the brutal gangrape, who has been battling for life at the Safdarjung Hospital.

Pointing that "it could have happened to just about anybody", the Chief Minister said that the policemen needed to change their mindset. She further said, "Nobody monitors CCTVs installed in Delhi, I'm skeptical about isolated measured announced recently...if closing bars at 1 am will ensure safety, so be it."

The Chief Minister said that the incident had left Delhi stunned and added, "I am not even thinking of elections...I feel ashamed that I can't do anything".
