New Delhi: A multi-storey building collapsed near the Bara Hindu Rao area of Delhi on Wednesday morning resulting in trhe death of two people. Nakki (68) and his son Bunty (35) were pulled out of the debris by Fire department officials and rushed to the nearby Gangaram Hospital where they were declared brought dead, police said.
At least two others have been injured and more people are still feared trapped inside. Four fire tenders are involved in rescue and relief work. One of the injured man identified as Salman is recuperating in the hospital.
"We received a call at around 7:45 AM about the incident. The building was located in Haji Mehboob Gali of Bara Hindu Rao area. Three people were rescued from the rubble out of which two have died. Few more are feared to be trapped under the debris of the building," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sindhu Pillai.
Officials of Delhi Fire Department, Delhi Police and a team of Disaster Management are carrying the rescue work at the spot, the official said.
Rescue operations have been hampered by the fact that the lanes are very congested. Sources say that most buildings in that area are close to 150 years old.
