New Delhi: The Delhi Police Control Room head in a letter admitted that the PCR staff is often indiscipline and shirks its duties at times.
PCR vans are the first point of contact for citizens but a RTI query reveals that instructions issued from time to time are not implemented properly.
The letter also states the officials manning the PCR vans hide themselves from the public and behave belligerently.
It also states that the staff gossips and does not bother to check suspects and park their vans at roadsides.
These startling revelations come at a time when the Delhi Police are in the process of upgrading its 630 strong PCR van fleet by another 370 vans to meet the enhanced security needs for the Commonwealth Games 2010.
The admissions of the Delhi Police became public due to the dogged persistence of a marketing professional.
“I was walking on the street with my wife and 10-year-old daughter when some anti-social elements passed some lewd comments about my wife and child. I tried calling the police and even messaged the SHO and ACP of the area but no one responded,” says marketing professional, Sanjay Bhattacharya.
Delhi Police initially declined to clearly respond to the three RTIs Sanjay had filed. Finally, after he petitioned the Home Ministry and the Chief Information Commission the Delhi Police was forced to provide this information.
