Why fees hiked, Delhi HC asks pvt schools

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday spoke out for parents burdened by the sudden fee hike in Delhi's private schools to settle teachers' dues. The court wants the government to explain why fees are hiked after a PIL was filed.

"The government has failed to perform statutory duty towards the parents. In fact, the government is protecting the private schools," said petitioner Ashok Aggarwal.

Calling for greater transparency, the court also asked the government to make public, the recommendations of the Bansal Committee report that was formed to look into the issue. This, along with audited books of all private schools.

I Bindra "We are hopeful that this order has set the ball rolling. This particular school sent us the circular but withdrew it later," said lawyer I Bindra.

However, the rising tab will continue to pinch pockets of many like Joginder, a class four employee whose dream of a quality education for his only son is under a cloud.

"I cannot afford the fee anymore. I will have to withdraw my son from the school if this continues," said Joginder.

The directorate of education has predictably said that it will furnish the required details in given time. It has till April 29 to respond. And perhaps then the parents will find some answers.
