New Delhi: An unrelenting sun beat down on the capital, pushing the maximum temperature to 44.2 degrees Celsius on Friday. The scorching heat is here to stay, the Met department said.
The maximum of 44.2 was a good five degrees C above what is normal for this time of the season. The minimum was 24.8 degrees Celsius.
The weekend would be as searing - with 43 degrees Celsius forecast on Saturday. However, there could be some relief with a partly cloudy sky, the weather man said.
For Delhiites, respite from the searing heat does seem quite distant.
"I have been trying to avoid going outdoors, but because of the nature of my work I have no option. I try and protect myself with a dupatta (scarf) over my head, shades, umbrella and sip water continuously - yet it brings little relief," said Sakshi Mehra, a sales executive.
