New Delhi: It's Dusshera on Thursday. It isn't just the stock markets, but terror attacks that are overshadowing the mood this festive season.
For Praniti, a south Delhi resident of CR Park, Durga puja is time to hang out with friends and have fun, but she is finding something amiss in the puja mood this time.
Praniti, says, "If I compare the crowd last year or before that, it’s 40-45 per cent less this year. People are scared to come out in the crowd."
Neither the people nor the police are taking chances after the recent serial blasts.
Puja celebrations as well as the immersion following it are being done with caution. On Vijai Dashmi, all registered Puja Committees have been instructed to cut down on the number of people in the processions.
Secratary, Mela Ground Samiti BP Dutta says, "We are moving in a row totally escorted by the Delhi Police. Whatever instructions they are giving, we are abiding by them."
Around 100 pujas are organised in South Delhi alone. The immersion committee along with the Delhi Police has chalked out the details of ways to beef up security and minimise the chaos.
Vice president (VP) South Delhi Immersion Committee Narayan Dey says, "We have beefed up the security this year as compared to last year.
We'll have private security guards along with the Delhi Police and the Traffic Police to manage the crowd"
But on a Navami, it's one last chance to visit the pandal and pray for better times ahead.
