Delhi to feel Japan's screen presence from today

New Delhi: Beginning July 20, cinema lovers in the Capital will be treated to the best of Asian and Arab cinema.

Preparations are in full swing for the ninth Osians' Cinefan Film fest at Delhi’s Siri Fort and this year, the festival focuses on Japan with a tribute to Kenji Mizoguchi.

“You’ve got wonderful Mizoguchi films and some lovely contemporary. So it’s happening,” says Founder, Cinefan, Aruna Vasudev.

The Japan focus will also include a first ever Benshi performance, a host of Samurai films and a huge Japansese film poster exhibition.

The 10-day event officially opens with the international premiere of Babak Shirinshefat's debut film Raami.

For the closing ceremony, an award winning Egyptian feature Cut and Paste by Hala Khalil has been chosen.

This time around, PVR Plaza and Rivoli have been roped in for a daily evening show

“This is our first step to step out of south Dlehi and even one show a day at PVR Plaza and Rivoli is a beginning,” says Vasudev.

Entry is priced at Rs 20 at Siri fort and Rs 50 at PVR cinemas. Tickets for the festival are available at several outlets in the capital including the Visuals Art Gallery, the India Habitat Centre and Siri Fort and Alliance Francaise.

With a selection of 140 films from more than 35 countries being screened, the Capital looks all set to turn into cinema heaven over the next few days.
