New Delhi: The six-month old transport deadlock between Uttar Pradesh and Delhi is over as Delhi-UP bus service resumed with the passengers heaving a sigh of relief.

Transport Minister of Delhi Haroon Yusuf and UP's Transport Minister Ram Achal Rajbhar flagged off the UP-Delhi buses from Anand Vihar bus terminal on Saturday signaling the end of the crisis and the nightmare of the commuters.

“We are ready to flag off the bus service. It will help a lot of commuters henceforth,” said Ram Achal Rajbhar Transport Minister, UP.

The return of the integrated transport system has stirred excitement among passengers. “We are happy now that the bus service between two states has resumed. It will be much easier to commute now,” said one passenger.

The dispute between the two states had started after Uttar Pradesh tried to ply its CNG buses in the Capital, claiming an agreement signed in 2004. When Delhi authorities countered this, the UP government impounded 100 DTC buses without notice. UP government too banned DTC buses from entering its territory.

While likening the 7-month-old crisis between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh transport authorities to the infamous Indo-Pak stalemate, Delhi transport Minister Haroon Yusuf said that it was Mayawati who was responsible for bringing the buses back on track.

“The previous government was insensitive to the issues of the people. But UP Chief Minister Mayawati is keen on working for the benefit of UP people. This is the fisrt thing she has done as the newly appointed CM and people are appreciating her efforts, ” said Haroon Yousuf Transport Minister, Delhi.

For now, the Delhi Government has allowed UP to run its buses in three inter-states bus terminals - Anand Vihar, Sarai Kale Khan and Kashmere Gate. And while the routes may expand later, bus fares remain unchanged.
