New Delhi: Dengue continues to hold the Capital in its grip. On Sunday, three more people succumbed to this deadly disease at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). And with 192 confirmed cases in the hospital, authorities are struggling to cope.
"We have mobilized 100 additional resident doctors, 50 faculty member and 50 interns which are only dedicated to the dengue fever patients," AIIMS PRO, Shakti Gupta said.
Inspite of the Health Ministry roping in private hospitals and nursing homes to ease the burden, AIIMS continues to handle the maximum number of dengue patients. The pressure is telling on the doctors.
"This patient has been lying here for so long. Where should we take him? Where can we possibly take him?" said one Policeman who was carrying a patient in critical condition lying unattended in a van outside the AIIMS premises.
Meanwhile, civic agencies claim to have stepped up fogging operations. With fresh cases of dengue being reported every day, perhaps only a drop in temperature will put an effective check on the Aedes mosquitoe menace.
