New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a fifth standard student has committed suicide in Faridabad. The reason being that her parents were unable to buy her books.
Faridabad residents Ram Prasad and his wife are labourers. Like all parents they too wanted their child to lead a good life and be educated.
But their daughter 12-year-old Jyoti committed suicide, all because they could not buy her books. That is what this class five student of the Adhunik Navoday Public School said in a suicide note.
Adhunik Navoday Public School Manager Anil says, “Children demand things from their parents at homes. But their poor parents are often not able to fulfill their needs.”
On the fateful day last week, Jyoti did not go to school. In her suicide note, she wrote that now her father need not buy books for her anymore.
Ram Prasad says, “That day she had asked for new books and I told her that I would get it but I don't know what was going on in her mind and why she did this.”
Children often are the worst sufferers when socio-economic disparities widen.
It's a blighted childhood for many in the shadow of such sparkling high rises.
And it perhaps needs much more than budgetary support.
