Meet Dera's luxury baba | Pics

New Delhi: Baba Gurmit Singh Ram Rahim is a really colourful baba who pays serious attention to his appearance.

His headgear and clothes vary according to the way he wants to look like - sometimes a king, occasionally an ascetic and most of the time the spiritual leader of the controversial sect, Dera Sacha Sauda.

Baba Gurmit Singh Ram Rahim preaches harmony and peace, but he has triggered off unrest across Punjab. The latest controversy around him - his wearing the traditional attire of the 10th guru of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh.

"I have not done anything wrong. I wear dresses that are designed and given to me by my followers. I have worn similar dresses before, but no one raised the issue. This seems to be deliberately instigated and could be politically motivated," says he.

And he has not shown any sign of apologising for the clothes controversy. His sect commands a following of 15 million devotees and the devotees belong to all religions.

However, now post the controversy, his role and that of his supporters are being probed by the CBI. A local journalist was allegedly shot dead by Baba's followers for trying to expose the alleged sexual exploitation of women.

The Godman, and his sect courted controversy by openly supporting Congress in the February Assembly elections in Punjab. And that is the reason why Shiromani Akali leadership are extremely suspicious of his moves.
