Mumbai: The verdict is out — Kamaal R Khan's Deshdrohi will not be released in Maharashtra after the state government's high-level committee on Thursday decided to continue the ban on the film.
Sources in the Home Ministry say the stay on the ban is a result of the fear that the content of the film may disrupt law and order in the state.
“Government has decided to ban it. The whole country’s watching the movie but here the political will is against the film,” Khan says.
After a private screening for top officials of the Police and State government on Monday, producer Kamaal R Khan had agreed to make three cuts in the film that were found ''objectionable'' but that doesn't seem to have got the film a green light yet.
But with support coming in from the film fraternity, Khan is confident that a legal recourse will rescue his film.
"It’s fundamental right to film to be released," film maker Mahesh Bhatt says.
Khan now plans to approach the Bombay High Court to challenge the State government's decision.
