Director John Madden and his crew had a long shooting schedule in Udaipur and Jaipur in India for his movie The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Both Dev Patel and Judy Dench shot in India for a long time.
In the movie Dev Patel plays a role of a native Indian and has to talk in English just like the way the language is spoken in India. Accent and voice trainer Vidur Chaturvedi was called upon by John Madden to train Dev in the same. Vidur says, “I was surprised when I was called upon to teach English to Dev.” He adds, “But John explained to me that Dev has a very strong British accent and I need to teach him the Indian accent so that his character of a person born and brought up in Indian looks more convincing.”
