When he put on the thinking cap to turn a lyricist for Pilla number in 'Gabbar Singh', Devi Sri Prasad might not have expected to pen simple yet poetic lyrics cushioned in entertaining metaphors. He brought his breezy musical style to writing lyrics.
What came as a surprise to the new lyricist is the fact that the song had thoroughly entertained even the likes of Sitarama Sastry. This eminent lyricist made it a point to call him up and talk for about 20 minutes, and peppered his talk with lines from the song.
"I am so happy that all lyricists like Chandrabose Garu, Ramajogayya Garu, Sahiti Garu, Bhaskarabatla Garu appreciated me for Pilla lyrics. The legendary Sitarama Sastry Garu called me yesterday and praised me for "Pilla" lyrics for about 20mins. And also quoted my lyrics from the song. I am thrilled that Sirivennela Garu sang the lines 'Tella Kaagitham, Break leni bike,Track leni train, Simpake nallani rathri' from Pilla song on the phone to me and blessed me that I should write more songs. And asked how I could get such good poetry into a good song. I am overjoyed. Thanks to all these great lyricists who wished me without any egos and blessed me whole heartedly. They are all my inspiration. Thanks to all.” Devi tweeted the other day.
