Kottayam: In Kottayam district of Kerala, thousand of devotees visited Saint Alphonsa's grotto on Sunday. The grotto was consecrated by Cardinal Leonardo Sandri from the Vatican.
A special mass and a thanksgiving celebration was held to mark the canonisation of India's first lady saint near her tomb at Bharananganam.
Leonardo Cardinal Sandri, Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches in Vatican and former President APJ Abdul Kalam were the chief guests. Archbishops and bishops from churches across India also participated in the function.
They include Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Pedro Lopez Quintana, Major Archbishop Varkey Cardinal Vithayathil, Telesphore Cardinal Toppo of Ranchi, Archbishop Daniel Acharuparambil, bishops from sister churches and others will participate.
