BANGALORE: Karnataka Pranta Raita Sangha (KPRS) will stage a dharna on Monday supporting the land rights of the farmers.  Speaking to reporters, the organisation’s secretary G C Bayya Reddy said, “More than 50,000 farmers from across the state are expected to participate in the dharna. The land belonging to farmers is forcibly being taken away by the private companies for their benefit and is not returned, if not used.”
“The main intention of the protest is to stop land grabbing by the companies. There is also the issue of distributing forest land to tribal people,” Bayya Reddy added.  He said that out of a total of 1,63,115 applications, only 6,073 have been considered. Around  8,503 acres of land has been distributed.
The remaining 1,44,087 applicants have been ignored, he alleged. Reddy said the protest will continue till the government distributes land to all  applicants who have been rejected land.
