New Delhi: The brutal killing of two Indian soldiers by Pakistan troops near the Line of Control in Mendhar sector of Jammu and Kashmir is seen as Pakistan's way of retaliating due to the tough stand taken by the Indian Army. According to a report in The Hindu newspaper the Indian troops had begun to build bunkers on the LoC.
The bunker-building exercise was undertaken after a 70-years-old woman called Reshma crossed the border and went to Pakistan occupied Kashmir. The woman had crossed over in September to stay with her son and grandson in PoK. Sources say that Reshma crossing over exposed the poor state of patrolling in the area after which Indian soldiers began constructing the bunkers.
A village in Uri was first one from where the Army started constructing bunkers. The bunker was built to keep an eye on the village and its residents nut the Pakistani Army opposed the construction citing the the Ceasefire Agreement of 2003. Despite protests from Pakistan, India continued to build more bunkers.

In October 2012 when the tension at the LoC escalated then Pakistani Army used loudspeakers to warn against construction of bunkers.
The Indian Army argued that the bunkers were being build to secure the villages and were not posing any threat to Pakistan. In October 2012 when the tension at the LoC escalated then Pakistani Army used loudspeakers to warn against construction of bunkers.
Later Pakistan military resorted to heavy firing on Indian positions, which resulted in the killing of three villagers, according to The Hindu report.
