Dual pricing policy for diesel in offing

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: Petroleum Minister Murli Deora has taken objection to many private vehicle owners allegedly taking advantage of the fact that diesel is currently sold at subsidised rates.

Soon therefore, one could be buying diesel at different prices for one’s car and electricity generator set.

The Centre is actively considering a dual pricing policy for diesel.

The oil ministry is working on a way to increase the price, without affecting crucial sectors like agriculture, railways, defence and public transport. But a timeline for this has not been decided yet.

The government bears a loss of around Rupees 1,00,000 crore trying to keep diesel price low. Deora also says the price of petrol will not come down despite crude prices cooling off recently.
