Guwahati: Silsila Das is a happy and busy person during Diwali and so are all the other students at Guwahati's Sishu Sharoti.
Sishu Sharoti is a centre for rehabilitation and training for children with multiple disabilities. This time of the year, the children’s nimble little hands are full of colours.
The little ones give shape, colour and life to earthen lamps.
Not just one or two, but 25,000 earthen lamps are handcrafted over two months especially for the festival of lights.
“It's been six years now we have been doing this project of diyas. Children are very fond of it. They enjoy doing it because it’s full of colours. We also teach the concept of colours, of counting and learning also comes in,” Meera Kagti, the Director of Shishu Sarothi.
The fun and frolic is not just with colours.
There is also the guitar, the stage shows and songs to sing as nearly 100 students of this centre established in 1987.
Audiences say they love the environment and the performances at the school. Many love the colours and the celebrations.
The lamps or diyas that these children make are packaged to perfection not only add to the celebration but also to carry the message of love from all these special, proud and happy children.
“This is something the children look forward. We want to interact, with corporates, with people. The diyas just fly off the shelf,” said Angira Mimani, the Secretary of Shishu Sarothi.
