New Delhi: A group of 300 volunteers and differently-abled individuals set out on a tour called the Badhte Kadam journey to spread the message that differently-abled people just want respect.
The tour, which began on October 21, intends to cover different states for 40 days to spread their message to people across the country.
The event, an initiative of the National Trust, is a celebration of the self of differently-abled young individuals.
Delhi's Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit flagged the Delhi contingent on December 2.
Dikshit said, "the society needs to change how they view differently-abled people. All they want is acceptance from society."
This young group of people believe in playing fair and want equal opportunities for development.
"We are part of the same society, we need to be able to do things like marriage, education, mobility etc. We are the same," said a participant, Muthu Subramaniam.
"People always look at us and question what we can do in life. Atleast give us a chance and then see what all we can do," added Pankaj Sharma.
Badhte Kadam has been changing the mindsets of people for the last three years.
