New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Digivijaya Singh on Tuesday showed phone records he said proved that he spoke to slain ATS chief Hemant Karkare a few hours before Karkare was killed on November 26, 2008. He is now demanding apologies from people doubted his claim.
“I was hurt when Maharashtra Home Minister denied having any such records in the legislative assembly”, said Digvijay Singh.
Digvijay's comment that Hemant Karkare had often called him complaining that his family was being targetted by alleged RSS supporters while investigating Malegaon blasts met with strong criticism.
Today the powerful general secretary suggested that terror is on the wane in India after the arrest of the Malegaon blast accused.
A belligerent BJP is in no mood to accept Digvijay’s proof.
BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “The larger issue is whether Mr Digvijay Singh by raising all this is seeking to compromise the fight against terror.”
Digvijay Singh’s phone call proof may silence his critics within his own party, but with the Congress battling so many controversies, a political point which the party, may had tried to reap out of Digvijay Singh’s comment may be lost to the opposition.
