New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh's interview to CNN-IBN saying the party would sit in the Opposition if necessary is still creating a ripple - both in the Congress and the BJP.
Digvijay Singh had told CNN-IBN: "If we don't have the required numbers we can sit in the Opposition."
This remark has got the Congress running for cover in the midst of a surcharged election campaign and it also gave the BJP another reason to target the Congress.
BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said, "It seems the Congress is seeing the writing on the wall."
CNN-IBN has learnt that many in the Congress have raised questions about the timing of this statement by Digvijay Singh. Some in the party feel it could sway the floating votes away from the party, but officially the party is blaming the BJP for blowing the remarks out of proportion.
Minister of State, Industry, Ashwini Kumar says, "The BJP is reading more than required and rest assured the Congress will return to power."
However, at least one person the Congress desperately needs in its camp, Bihar Chief Minister and BJP ally Nitish Kumar, again repeated that he will not go with the Congress post polls.
"we are not holding any talks with the Congress and there is no scope for it," said Nitish Kumar.
In the Congress camp, the desperation to form a government at any cost is missing and this is being interpreted as hopelessness and despair by its main rival, the BJP. However, the Congress believes that there is no question of any humiliation even if it has to sit in the Opposition.
