Mumbai: It was an occasion to remember the father of Indian cinema on his birth anniversary - the man who made the first silent movie in India, Dada Saheb Phalke.
The Dadasaheb Phalke Academy, a body of 36 cine association, honours talent from various departments on the D-day every year.
This year, the biggest honour - the Phalke Ratna - was given to the thespian actor Dilip Kumar for his contribution to Hindi film industry.
At 85, Dilip Kumar may not be at his best health but he was there to receive the honour. Interestingly, the man who handed the trophy to the actor was more emotional than the recipient himself and the man was none other than filmmaker Yash Chopra.
"I am so happy to be here and present the award to Shri Dilip Kumar. I hope he keeps blessing us like this all the time," said Chopra.
Ysteryear's other actors - Shashi Kala, Aroona Irani, Bina Rai and Kum-Kum were also honoured on this occasion. Sitting among the veterans, the only exception was Amrita Rao who was given a special award for her recent release, Vivah.
"The Academy told me that I am the youngest recipient of this award and that feels great," said Amrita.
The ceremony may have lacked all the glam and glory associated with film awards, but this is one the filmy function that remembers the man who brought the magic of cinema to the country.
