Dinakaran case: Mayor surrenders

New Delhi: Madurai mayor Thenmozhi Gopinathana, and former mayor P Kulandaivelu have surrendered before a court at Melur near Madurai and were released on bail on Friday.

They were accused in connection with the attack on the office of the daily newspaper Dinakaran. Three people died in the attack.

Another DMK party worker, accused in the incident also surrendered before a judicial magistrate.

The three of them have been charged under section 285 of negligent handling of combustible materials.

Supporters of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s elder son M K Azhagiri led the attack. They were protesting an opinion poll published in the paper on Karunanidhi's possible successors.
