Disabled artist returns seeking parents

Mangalore: Abandoned as an infant in Bangalore Minda Cox, a disabled artist, was adopted by an American couple over two decades ago.

Now, 20 years later, Minda made an emotional journey back home and managed to track down her biological parents.

Born without arms and legs, Minda's journey began at the Ashraya Ashram in Bangalore, where she was abandoned when she was just a day old.

After spending 20 months at the Ashram, Minda was adopted by an American couple and taken to the US – to a new family and a new future.

Rising above her disability, Minda is now a successful artist in her hometown in Missouri and she utilised the earnings from the sale of her paintings in her search for her biological parents.

"I'm just so happy, am just so happy to be back and meet my parents. I finally got to meet them," an emotional Minda said.

The thrill was felt equally by Minda’s biological mother, Kalavathi Shetty.

"I am very happy. I have found my child. My mind feels satisfied to see my child," she said.

Shopkeepers in a village in Udupi, Minda's biological parents say they were forced to abandon their oldest daughter as they did not have the means to take care of her, back in 1988.

Minda, however, seems unconcerned by what they did and is just grateful that they kept her alive and draws comfort from the fact that she convinced her parents that she overcame her disability.
