New Delhi: In an attempt to help the disabled children, Government has proposed financial and medical aid for rural mothers who have disability or have their children suffering from disability in rural India.
The Social Justice Ministry has proposed to pay a grant of Rs 2,000 per month to each disabled mother in rural areas.
"The aid will help to relieve the pressure on rural mother’s who feel the disabled child is a burden. She would be help the disabled child in a better manner," Executive Director National Policy for Disabled, Anjalee Aggarwal says.
Studies reveal that most disabled women in rural areas lack proper support and medical assistance. They are considered a burden and often discouraged to marry or become mothers.
- The National Policy for Disabled and the Social Justice Ministry proposes to pay Rs 2,000 per month to a disabled mother.
- The grant will also go to parents whose children are born with a disability of any kind.
- The monetary help will continue till the child is two-years-old.
It could be a huge help to millions in a country like India. But is the government also willing to move beyond this and work on the prevention of the disabilities as well?
"There should be more work done on early prevention. So that disability can be detected and diagnosed at an early stage," Social Justice Minister Meira Kumar says.
Finally, there is some hope for the hundreds of disabled children in rural areas.
