New Delhi: The newly crowned world Twenty20 champions are home and while they're still savouring the euphoria of that famous win, preparations are already on at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore for the Indian team's next outing-the first One-Dayer against Australia on Saturday. But for many disappointed fans, the tickets are already sold out.
For peanut seller Annaiah it was brisk business outside the Chinnaswamy stadium on Monday morning as people rushed to try and get a ticket to the India versus Australia One-Dayer on Saturday.
However, for people standing in the serpentine queue, which ran all along the stadium, it had been an overnight wait to get their hands on these coveted tickets.
“I’ll be getting my tickets in five minutes and I'm very happy,” said a delighted fan.
There were 12,000 tickets on offer for the public and each person was allowed just one ticket. Within three hours of the counters opening, the tickets were all sold out, leaving thousands of fans angry and disappointed.
"We came here on the first day but unfortunately we couldn't get ticket. There is a lot of crowd. We were standing in line but they said there's no tickets, actually the cops have taken all the tickets," said a disappointed fan.
"This is my fourth day, people are selling tickets which were Rs 1,000 for Rs 5,000-Rs 6,000. How can we middle class people afford it," said another.
Inside the stadium was a different kind of activity - hectic preparations are on to get the venue ready for Saturday's thrilling encounter.
The last time Bangalore hosted a One-day international was two years back when South Africa had come to town. This time around the passion to watch the newly crowned Twenty20 world champions take on Australia on home turf is all consuming and drawing the crowds like bees to honey.
